About the museum
The Olympia Bob Run between St. Moritz and Celerina opened in 1904 and is considered the oldest bobsleigh track still in use as well as the last natural-ice track in the world. It came into being because bobsledders – above all British members of the St. Moritz Tobogganing Club – sought their own course at the end of the 19th century, after repeated disputes with skeleton riders on the Cresta Run.
The Bobmuseum is located in the school building of Celerina, at the site of the first bobsleigh track and where the oldest bobsleigh club in the world was founded. Part of today’s exhibition opened in the 2018/19 winter season; it includes a “Run of Fame” with the most successful drivers.
The collection is one of the most important on the history of bobsleigh. On display are wooden sleds more than a hundred years old, five-man bobsleighs from the 1928 Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz, genuine Olympic gold medals and historical photographs. They tell of the beginnings of bobsleigh and skeleton about 150 years ago in St. Moritz and Celerina, up to the present day.
