About the museum
St. Moritz is regarded as the birthplace of alpine winter tourism: winter tourism began here in 1864, since 1885 riders have hurtled headfirst down the Cresta Run, and since 1904 the Olympia Bob Run has led as a natural ice track down to Celerina. Both tracks are built anew from snow and ice every winter and stood at the center of the Olympic Winter Games of 1928 and 1948.
In early 2024 the Cresta & Bob Museum opened in the newly built Haus Scala on Via Maistra, opposite the Hotel Kulm, where the traditional Kino Scala cinema once stood. It was created in cooperation with the municipalities of St. Moritz and Celerina, the Saint Moritz Bobsleigh Club, the St. Moritz Tobogganing Club, and private collectors and investors. The same building now also houses a cinema and a restaurant.
The exhibition is devoted to Cresta racing as the forerunner of the skeleton, to the construction and development of the two ice tracks, to the development of the bobsleigh, and to the two Olympic Games in St. Moritz. On display are real bobsleds and sleds, steel runners, gold medals, photographs and films; a Hall of Fame commemorates well-known female and male bobsledders. A slide runs from the museum through the entire building down to the basement.
