About the museum
The idea for a new Winterthur museum arose in 2006, when the city suggested a museum concept. In 2009 this was approved after a hearing with experts; in 2012 the sponsoring association "museum schaffen" was founded. In May 2018 the first exhibition route opened, initially as a pop-up museum in halls on the former Sulzer site (Lokstadt), such as the Halle Rapide and later the Halle Draisine.
Since March 2021 the museum has had its permanent home in a former industrial hall at Lagerplatz 9. Its sponsor and most important supporter is the Historical Association of Winterthur, founded in 1874.
In terms of content, the museum puts people as workers at the centre and looks at work from historical, contemporary and future perspectives. It relies on public participation and cooperation, and shows changing exhibitions, complemented by guided tours, workshops, talks and family programs.
