About the museum
The monastery court of Trun came to Disentis Abbey through a bequest of Bishop Tello and initially served as its administrative seat. From 1424 the court also served the Grey League as a meeting and court venue. After a new building in 1588, the present baroque building at the western edge of the village was constructed between 1674 and 1679 under Prince-Abbot Adalbert II de Medel by the master builder Pedrut de Rungs from the Lugnez; it is one of the finest secular buildings in the region. His successor Adalbert III Defuns had the interiors furnished: the abbot's rooms with panelling, the Landrichter hall painted by Fridolin Eggert around 1700, and the house chapel.
After the fire of 1846 the monastery sold the court to Gion Giachen Cavegn; it served as living space for three families, while the Landrichter hall remained reserved for the district court. After a renovation from 1930 to 1934, the foundation "Cuort Ligia Grischa" was established in January 1934, which safeguards the building as a historical monument. Between 1989 and 1992 fundamental renovation work followed, through which the present museum was set up.
Today the museum shows the historic rooms with the Wappensaal (Hall of Arms) as its centrepiece, the living quarters of Father Placi a Spescha, a black kitchen and art exhibitions. Original works by the Trun artists Alois Carigiet, Matias Spescha, Gieri Schmed and Sora Gielia Degonda are on permanent display. In the attic there is a children's area, and a film room and a collection on the Romansh press complete the tour.
