About the museum
The Wollkarderei de Sax in Disentis/Mustér is considered the oldest wool-processing company in Switzerland. Here sheep's wool is processed from scratch according to old tradition and using only natural materials: it is washed, carded and dyed.
The heart of the business is a historic carding machine which, depending on the source, is some 150 to 160 years old and still loosens and aligns the wool fibers today. Roland de Sax learned the craft from his grandfather and carries it on.
Visitors can get to know the business on guided tours, where the individual work steps are explained at the old machine. At times, the tours are part of the guest program of Sedrun Disentis Tourismus; outside of that, and for groups, they are offered by arrangement. In addition, a spinning course can be booked as a private lesson.
