About the museum
The museum was founded by Lyndon Charles “Don” Pallot, a well-known Jersey character, who set up a trust in 1985 to preserve steam engines, farm machinery, vehicles and other items permanently. It is managed by the L C Pallot Trust, whose trustees are Don Pallot’s surviving sons and daughters. The museum opened to the public in 1990 in older adjacent buildings.
An Engine Shed and a Victorian-style station platform followed and were opened on Liberation Day 1996. A large extension to the Engine Shed, completed in 2002, gave the exhibits a brighter and more spacious home, including a church pipe organ and a Compton theatre organ.
The collection covers steam engines, farm and other machinery, motor vehicles, vintage bicycles, a variety of organs and the island’s early tractors, from the Fordson Model F to International Harvester machines of the 1960s sold by L C Pallot Ltd. A full-size railway is part of the museum, with the Belgian-built tank locomotive La Meuse of 1931, brought to Jersey in 1987, and North London Railway coaches. The museum is financed by admission charges, souvenir sales, donations and fayres held in May and in the autumn.
