Tijdelijk gesloten (naar verwachting tot 2030). The museum has been closed for works since August 4, 2024. Reopening is announced for 2030.

Over het museum

The banker and collector Moïse de Camondo had a private mansion built between 1911 and 1914 near the Parc Monceau, designed by the architect René Sergent. The building draws on the Petit Trianon at Versailles and replaced an older residence, of which only the street-facing building was kept. Moïse de Camondo installed his collection of 18th-century French art there and sought to recreate the interior of an aristocratic home of that period.

In 1924 he decided to bequeath the house and its collections to the Union centrale des arts décoratifs, in memory of his son Nissim, a pilot killed in combat in 1917. After his death in 1935, the museum opened to the public in December 1936. The rooms were kept in the style of a lived-in house, with antique panelling, furniture by royal cabinetmakers, tapestries, carpets, goldsmiths’ work and porcelain.

The museum also tells the story of the Camondo family, whose line tragically died out during the Second World War. It is managed by Les Arts décoratifs and bears the “Musée de France” label. Closed since August 4, 2024 for safety and restoration works, it is due to reopen in 2030.
