Over het museum
The museum opened on June 28, 2017, in the former fire station of Senningen. The building, dating from 1928, was originally a dairy; it became a fire station in 1947, then served the Neibaach fishing club before standing empty. From 2014 it was renovated together with the municipality of Niederanven.
It began with the collections of former fire chiefs Pierre Rach and Gilbert Sauber of the Oberanven fire brigade. After their pieces were shown at the cantonal fire brigade conference and interest grew, the museum was created to preserve the history of firefighting in Luxembourg.
It sees itself as a teaching museum: the permanent exhibition of historical firefighting equipment is combined with educational material on fire prevention, explained in an age-appropriate way, mainly to school classes, showing how to avoid fires and accidents. There is a partnership with the fire museum in Hermeskeil, Germany.
