About the museum
The Bamberg Amthof is a reminder that Feldkirchen was under the feudal lordship of the Diocese of Bamberg from 1166 to 1759. The building served the bishop's officials as an administrative seat and is first mentioned in 1422 as the tower of Feldkirchen.
In the 15th century the Ungnad family had the complex fortified in view of the Turkish threat, and in the 17th and 18th centuries the Foregger family extended it. Around 1900, under the owner Faleschini, the east and west wings with the arcaded courtyard were added, creating today's four-winged complex. From 1991 to 1993 the Amthof was extensively restored, and since then it has served as a cultural and event centre with a music school and cultural forum.
The Feldkirchen town museum is run by the Feldkirchen Museum Association. In two rooms it presents selected pieces from the town's natural, economic and cultural history – from a medieval shaft well and finds from the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman period to mills, flax processing, traditional costume and Feldkirchen marionettes. In 2022 it received the Austrian Museum Seal of Quality.
