About the museum
The brass band museum is located in the "Haus der Blasmusik" in Ratten and was opened with a festival on 5 October 2008. It is run by the Musikverein Ratten. The museum is listed in the Austrian museum database.
The exhibition spans from 1804, when the Grätzer Zeitung reported on a "Turkish music" in Ratten, to current events and exhibits. It is one of the few museums in Austria to present regional brass band music so comprehensively over such a long period.
In the exhibition rooms, brass and woodwind instruments from different eras can be seen, along with sheet music, composers, clothing and uniforms. A three-dimensional reconstruction of the Ratten band of 1895 is accompanied by music from that time. Special features include a serpent built around 1800, a rare historical type of instrument, as well as an Aida trumpet and a clarinet from around 1800.
