About the museum
The Fahrradmuseum Ybbs is located on Herrengasse in the historic vaults of the old town, close to the Danube Cycle Path. It is run by the municipality of Ybbs an der Donau.
In 2020 the existing museum was greatly expanded and restaged: the exhibition space grew to around 300 square metres, a courtyard connects the parts of the building, and the neighbouring library moved out. The reopening took place on 11 June 2020.
The show tells the history of cycling in nine stages. About 150 bicycles from several countries, dating from 1820 to 1960, are on display, including wooden running machines, high-wheelers, Steyr military bicycles from 1897 onwards and children's vehicles, along with accessories, historic photographs, catalogues and posters. The facade of Leo Temper's shop has also been preserved. The themes range from technical progress to democracy and women's emancipation to racing.
