About the museum
The Zinngießerhaus is one of the oldest buildings in the region and was part of Mattighofen's town fortifications next to the old gate arch. A tin foundry operated here into the 20th century; the house belonged to the Eibl family until 1909. Later the savings bank used it as a storehouse, and the building gradually fell into disrepair.
In 1965 the Privilegierte uniformierte Bürgerkorps Mattighofen, founded in 1620 as a marksmen's company under the Bavarian Duke Maximilian, acquired the house. Members renovated it in 1966–1968 with their own labor; since then it has served as a museum and as the club's official clubhouse. Another renovation followed in 1992, and in 2023/24 it was fully refurbished with support from the Leader region Oberinnviertel-Mattigtal and the municipality, which also set up a Bürgergarde museum.
On the first floor is the armory of the Bürgerkorps; in the tower, the foundry, with old models and designs, grinding equipment and tin products. On the second floor are coats of arms and heraldry, as well as the restored banner "Wasserburger Fähnlein", which recalls the corps' participation in the Thirty Years' War. Visits and guided tours are possible after registering with the association.
