About the museum

The Meierhof of Schlägl Abbey was already mentioned in 1450 as the "Unterer Hof" (Lower Farm). Its present form dates in part from the 18th century and above all from extensive building work between 1816 and 1829. Today the four-winged manor farm houses a music school as well as the museum's exhibition rooms.

Since 1997 the Museum Kultur.Gut.Oberes Mühlviertel has made large parts of Josef Lehner's collection accessible to the public. On around 900 square metres, selected objects, mainly from the Rohrbach-Berg district, show how people in the Bohemian Forest lived and worked.

The themes range from water, stone, wood, iron, glass and leather through honey and wax, straw, flax and wool to livestock farming and arable farming. They are joined by the stages of life from birth to death, evidence of popular piety and typical products of the region.
