About the museum

The building in the centre of Ulrichsberg dates back to a parsonage from 1660, was extended in 1767 with a chaplain's wing, and from 1877 served as the municipal building. It has been set up as a museum since 1992. The local heritage association that runs the Heimathaus was founded on 11 October 1982; its chairman since March 2022 is Siegfried Umdasch.

At the centre is a glass collection known as "Böhmerwaldglas" (Bohemian Forest glass) with more than 600 objects. It documents a glass industry of the region that came to an end over 100 years ago. In addition there are furnished parlours such as the Oberplaner Stube, the Glöckelbergerstube and a farmhouse parlour, as well as a tailor's workshop, a Bohemian Forest relief model and rooms commemorating the writer Adalbert Stifter and the poet Pauline Bayer.

The house thus also commemorates the homeland of expelled Bohemian Forest people, displays farm implements such as those for flax processing, and offers insight into the craft traditions of the region.
