About the museum

The town museum is located in the Alte Hofmühle, the oldest building in Hollabrunn. The listed former manor farm dates back to the 16th century and was operated as a mill until about 1928. The museum moved into the building in the 1970s. Collecting activity in the town began as early as the early 20th century, carried by the Hollabrunner Museumsverein.

The foundation consisted of private collections on regional history, including finds and a number of faience pieces. Particularly significant is the collection of Habaner ceramics from the 17th to 19th centuries, which offers insight into the everyday life of the Anabaptist communities in the Weinviertel. The museum also preserves archaeological finds, an extensive coin collection and evidence of working life and crafts.

The permanent exhibitions deal with settlement since prehistoric times, medieval villages and castles (with the much-noted show on the "Wild East" and the Bavarian resettlement of the Weinviertel) and the history of Hollabrunn since it was raised to town status in 1908. The museum is run by the Hollabrunner Museumsverein on behalf of the municipality.
