About the museum
Antwerp Police has long attached importance to preserving its heritage. The former police museum was located on the twelfth floor of the police tower on the Oudaan, a protected 1958 building designed by Renaat Braem. It displayed objects of the Antwerp city police from 1860 onwards, such as uniforms, headgear, firearms, bicycles and motorcycles.
After the force moved to the new master building in Berchem, a selection from the museum's collection was shown again in the heritage centre on the eighth floor. The permanent exhibition presents the past and present of the Antwerp police with unique pieces and testimonies from police officers, in a modern space with, among other things, a large wall projection, interactive screens and a hologram.
The darker pages of history are also addressed. Much attention goes to the Second World War, when police officers had to arrest Jewish citizens and hand them over to the German occupier.
