About the museum
Andautonija was an ancient Roman settlement and municipium on the River Sava, on the site of today’s village of Ščitarjevo south of Zagreb, near Velika Gorica. The Romans founded the settlement in the 1st century AD on the course of the Sava at that time, and until the end of the 4th century it was the main administrative, political and cultural centre of that part of Pannonia.
Research at the site has been carried out for many years by the Arheološki muzej u Zagrebu (Archaeological Museum in Zagreb), which has also published the guide Arheološki park Andautonija. The museum manages the park and organises expert guided tours and workshops.
