About the museum

The Muzej suvremene umjetnosti u Zagrebu (Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb) was founded in 1954. Its collections have been built up for more than half a century and today comprise more than 12,000 works by Croatian and foreign artists from the mid-20th century to the present, in various media: painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, video, film, installations and internet art.

Since 2009 the museum has been housed in a new building in Novi Zagreb, designed for a wide range of multimedia events. Besides exhibitions and collections, it hosts theatre and dance performances, film screenings, meetings with artists, concerts, guided tours and workshops for children, young people, students, people with disabilities and pensioners.

A special feature of the building is a 90-metre LED screen that shows artistic video works and through which the museum also communicates with passers-by. The permanent display “Zbirka kao glagol” extends over three floors and the ground floor; in addition, the museum offers spaces for temporary exhibitions, a Black Box, and the cycles “Okidači” and “Situacije”.
