About the museum
The museum's history begins with the discovery of an important archaeological site on the Kuzelin hill near Donja Glavnica in April 1975. The site prompted further research in the Prigorje part of the then municipality of Sesvete. On 28 July 1977 the municipal assembly established the Local Heritage Museum, which was entered in the court register as an independent institution in 1978.
The museum operates in the 18th-century Kurija Zagrebačkoga kaptola (Curia of the Zagreb Chapter) at Trg Dragutina Domjanića 5 in Sesvete, a protected cultural monument. The building is a ground-floor structure with an upper storey, of simple solid volume and with a high, half-hipped roof. The institution develops archaeological, historical, ethnographic and art activities, alongside conservation, documentation and educational services.
The collections show the area and people of Sesvete Prigorje. The museum presents itself through exhibitions, catalogues, school programmes and events in the Kurija and in the Galerija Kurija. The Kuzelin archaeological site is occasionally open to visitors on the Open Day.
