About the museum
The Galerija umjetnina in Bol on the island of Brač was founded in 1963 and bears the name of Branislav Dešković (1883–1939), the first Croatian animal sculptor, a native of Pučišća. It is housed in a Renaissance-Baroque palace from 1694 in the harbour of Bol, spread over three floors.
The permanent display features works by the greatest Croatian painters and sculptors of modern and contemporary art, among them Jerolim Miše, Ignjat Job, Emanuel Vidović, Juraj Plančić, Ivo Dulčić, Edo Murtić, Ivan Rendić, Ivan Meštrović, Branislav Dešković and Antun Augustinčić. For many of these artists the Dalmatian landscape, and especially the island of Brač, was an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The gallery’s art collection is a cultural good of the Republic of Croatia.

- Stalni postav hrvatske umjetnosti 20. stoljeća – On the ground floor, sculptures are on display (Rendić, Meštrović, Dešković, Augustinčić, Michieli and others); on the first and second floors, selected works by Croatian modern and contemporary artists, among them Michieli, Goldoni, Ivančić, Job, Plančić and Vidović.
