About the museum
The Memorijalni centar “Faust Vrančić” (Faust Vrančić Memorial Centre) opened in September 2012 in Prvić Luka as the result of a local community project co-financed by European Union funds. It is devoted to the life, work and legacy of Faust Vrančić, born in 1551 in Šibenik, lawyer, philosopher, historian, lexicographer and inventor, who spent part of his childhood at the family summer residence on Prvić and is buried in the parish church of Sv. Marije od Milosti (St Mary of Grace) in Prvić Luka.
The main part of the display is on the ground floor of the building, while on the terrace of the upper floor, surrounded by a Mediterranean garden, full-size outdoor models of Faust’s inventions have been placed. The contemporary display, with multimedia and interactive content, presents the Vrančić family’s life, Faust’s machines from the collection “Machinae novae” (New Machines), among them a parachute, and his literary works, including a dictionary of five European languages from 1595. From the building there is a view over the bay of Prvić Luka, and a café operates within the centre.
