About the museum
The Muzej prekinutih veza (Museum of Broken Relationships) was founded by Zagreb producer Olinka Vištica and painter Dražen Grubišić. After the end of their own relationship, they began collecting objects from friends and acquaintances that recall broken relationships; the collection was first shown publicly in Zagreb in 2006. Travelling exhibitions followed around the world, and visitors donated new objects at each stop.
The permanent display opened in October 2010 in the Upper Town of Zagreb. In 2011 the museum received the Kenneth Hudson Award of the European Museum Forum for the most innovative museum in Europe. It is housed in the Baroque Kulmer Palace on Ćirilometodska Street.
Each exhibit is accompanied by a short story from the donor, usually anonymous, about love, loss, anger or forgiveness. The collection keeps growing through new donations, and the museum also organises travelling exhibitions and works with contemporary artists.
