About the museum
The Muzej povijesti videoigara in Zagreb is dedicated to preserving and presenting the development of video games and gaming culture, from the 1960s to the early 2000s. It was founded by Damir Šlogar, a Croatian author and entrepreneur in the video game industry, who began his career in the eighties making games for the MSX and the Commodore Amiga and later founded the studio Big Blue Bubble in Canada. After returning to his native Zagreb, he founded the museum to show the development of video games and their influence on technology and popular culture.
The museum occupies about 800 square metres on three floors and has more than 3,000 exhibits. The permanent display is organised by decade, from the 1970s to the 2000s, and visitors can try out cult arcade machines, consoles and classic games, among them Pong, Pac-Man, PlayStation and Nintendo 64. A separate permanent exhibition, Povijest hrvatskih videoigara (History of Croatian Video Games, 1984–2004), follows the pioneers of home computers, publishers and studios in Croatia.
The collection contains rare and legendary games and objects, and one of the largest collections of computer games in the world. In addition to the permanent display, the museum organises temporary exhibitions, workshops, events and panel discussions for the community of enthusiasts.
