About the museum
The Kamerlengo Castle in Trogir was built by the Venetians after they conquered the town in 1420; construction lasted until 1437. It housed the Venetian military garrison and served to defend the sea channel and the approaches to the harbour. The oldest part is the polygonal tower from the end of the 14th century. The ground plan is trapezoidal, and the monumental polygonal tower faces the sea. The main gate is on the north side, with a lunette and a drawbridge; towards the town there is a wide defensive ditch. In the inner courtyard there were residential buildings for the castellan and the garrison, as well as the Chapel of St Mark. The fortress is a protected cultural property, and today it is open to visitors for an admission fee.
