About the museum
The Zavičajni muzej Slatina was founded in 1984 by decision of the People's University “Veljko Vlahović”. Its first premises were the Drašković Manor (Draškovićev dvorac) in the northern part of the town, where the first ethnographic display opened, together with the memorial house of Nikola Miljanović Karaula in Lisičine and the Branko Radunković Gallery in Nova Bukovica. The manor building was damaged in the Homeland War, so until its relocation the museum operated in the premises of the Culture Centre (Dom kulture).
By decision of the Town Council of 1 August 2006 the museum became an independent institution, and in 2009 it moved to the ground floor of the former district office building (Stari kotar). The permanent display opened in 2015; it is structured by the school subjects listed on a school report card from 1915 and presents a thousand years of history of the Slatina region. The memorial rooms of the Homeland War and of the composer Milko Kelemen, and the Sports Room, opened in 2021 alongside it.
Since 1 January 2026 the museum has been closed for exhibition activities, as preparatory work begins under the project “ZaMiSli – muzej za sve” (ZaMiSli – a museum for everyone), followed by the reconstruction of the former district office building and its conversion for museum purposes.
