About the museum
The Zavičajni muzej Daruvar is housed in the Janković Castle, which Count Antun Janković had built from 1771 to 1777; the museum opened in the castle in May 2022. The castle is under first-category protection as a cultural monument, and the Galerija Eva Fischer is also located in it.
The castle has a U-shaped ground plan, with three wings around a courtyard facing north and 60 rooms on the ground floor and upper floor. The central salon in the middle wing has been arranged as a concert hall, where concerts of classical music are still held today. A park was laid out beside the castle by 1780, originally about 14 hectares, in the Baroque and landscape style; in it grows the largest and oldest ginkgo tree in Croatia, protected since 1974.
