About the museum

The fortress site at Darkovičky consists of the infantry bunkers MO-S 18 Obora, MO-S 19 Alej and MO-S 20 Orel and a light fortification, model 37 (řopík). It was built in 1935–1938 as part of the Czechoslovak fortifications, and the individual structures differ in construction, firing concept and degree of resistance.

Restoration began in 1980, when a working group of the then Museum of the Revolutionary Struggle and Liberation in Ostrava selected several structures to be returned to their 1938 condition. In June 1984 the museum took over four of the selected structures and began to restore them with the help of volunteers. The MO-S 19 Alej bunker was opened to the public on 28 September 1988. Since 1992 the site has been part of the Silesian Museum.

Today it is one of the best-preserved fortress museums in the country; visitors see original or faithfully restored weapons, gun carriages, optics and technical equipment in the bunkers. The site is part of the TECHNOTRASA trail of technical attractions in the Moravian-Silesian Region, and a nature trail along the line of the Czechoslovak fortifications in the Hlučín region also runs through it.
