About the museum

Broučkův dům is an original townhouse from the second half of the 17th century on Masarykovo náměstí in Náchod, which was adapted to its present form in 1999. The museum moved into it in 2000 from unsuitable premises in the Náchod château, where it had been based since 1950.

The Muzeum Náchodska continues the Městské muzeum v Náchodě (Municipal Museum in Náchod), whose establishment was approved by the town council in 1879. The collections were based on the archaeological collection of the teacher Jan Karel Hraš. Throughout its existence the museum moved several times; in 2003 it came under the Hradec Králové Region, and since 2018 it has been called Muzeum Náchodska.

Today the house offers the permanent exhibition Dějiny Náchoda a Náchodska, which covers the region from prehistory through the Middle Ages and the modern era to the present, and it also serves for short-term exhibitions and events.
