About the museum
Construction of the Dobrošov fortress began on 13 September 1937 as part of a plan for artillery fortresses on the northern border. Of the seven planned structures, only three were completed by 1938: the infantry bunkers Můstek and Jeřáb and the artillery bunker Zelený. They are connected by 1,750 metres of corridors and 750 metres of underground spaces at depths of 20 to 39 metres. After the Munich Agreement, construction ended and the fortress remained unfinished.
During the occupation the site was closed, and after 1945 it was abandoned for a long time. Since 2015 it has belonged to the Hradec Králové Region, which took it over free of charge from the army; its operation is provided by the Muzeum Náchodska. The fortress has been declared a national cultural monument.
After an extensive reconstruction costing roughly CZK 96 million, the fortress reopened in 2022. All three above-ground structures and the underground were repaired, and a new visitor centre was created with an exhibition on the development of the Czechoslovak fortifications and the events of the 1938 mobilisation. The bunkers have been newly equipped with collection objects and exhibits.
