About the museum

Rychmburk Castle was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries; at that time Tas of Pardubice and Stará is named as its owner. Later it belonged to the Vartemberk family, the Knights Hospitaller and the lords of Pardubice. Vilém Flaška of Pardubice was the father of the first Archbishop of Prague, Arnošt of Pardubice, and the poet Smil Flaška of Pardubice held the castle from 1369. The Hussites did not capture the castle, but the garrison surrendered in 1425 in exchange for free withdrawal.

After the Wallensteins, the estate was owned by the Berka of Dubá and Lipá family, who created a family entail (fideicommissum) from Rychmburk and other estates. After the Berka line died out in Bohemia, the estate passed through other owners to the Kinsky family.

Today the castle offers a tour route with historic interiors, an exhibition of Chrudim medieval altarpieces in the Gothic halls on the first floor, an exhibition on the history of the castle and estate, the household of an estate manager from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, brewing in the Pardubice Region, judicial torture in the cellar, and the long-term exhibition Alchemy of the Planets. The complex also includes a castle gallery, a concert hall, a castle chapel and an observation tower.
