About the museum
The Jihlava Underground forms an extensive labyrinth of cellars and passages beneath the historic core of the town. Tours start at the ticket office on Hluboká Street and offer visitors three routes: the Historical Underground, the Civil Defence Shelter and the Jihlava Utility Tunnels (kolektory).
The Historical Underground presents the history of the town and lasts 30 to 45 minutes. The Civil Defence Shelter shows cellar spaces and a shelter from the 1970s of the 20th century; the tour itself takes about 40 minutes, and visitors first get kitted out. The utility tunnels are underground linear structures for carrying utility networks; the tour, which includes ladders, takes about one to one and a half hours.
The underground is run by the contributory organisation Brána Jihlavy (Gate of Jihlava), which also organises the December event Peklo v podzemí (Hell in the Underground) for children.
