Letecké muzeum v Kunovicích

An open-air aircraft museum by Kunovice airport: over 30 transport, sports and military aircraft and helicopters, open from April to October.

Opening hoursAdmission 150 Kč

About the museum

The beginnings of the aircraft collection in Kunovice go back to the 1960s, when parachutists of the Slovácký aeroklub tried to save two parachute-jump aircraft. The failure led them to the idea of systematically preserving aircraft. In 1970 the volunteer Slovácké letecké muzeum was founded; it was housed on the grounds of the LET Kunovice company and was not generally accessible to the public. The first complete exhibit was the aerobatic aircraft Aero L-29 Delfín.

After problems with the site in the 1980s, the collection was taken over by the Slovácký aeroklub Kunovice. In 1991 the museum moved to its present site beside the airport, and after 1989 military exhibits in particular increased in number, several of which were repaired. Since 2006 it has appeared under the name Letecké muzeum Kunovice, and since 2017 as an independent branch association of the Slovácký aeroklub.

The collection has been entered in the Central Register of Collections of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic since 2018, and since 2019 the museum has been a member of the Asociace muzeí a galerií ČR (Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic). Today more than thirty aircraft and helicopters are on display – transport, sports and military – as well as military equipment. The aircraft stand mainly outdoors, so the museum’s main aim is to build a large-span hangar.
