About the museum
Today's open-air museum was established on the site of a former military training ground on the edge of Uherské Hradiště, which had long been left unattended. The first conceptual study, “Composed Landscape Rochus”, was prepared in 2007 by Professor Ivar Otruba. In 2010 the first hundred trees were planted and the same year the public benefit company Park Rochus was founded to manage the site.
Since 2012 an open-air museum has been gradually taking shape here, on the edge of the Mařatice vineyards. Visitors will see an original wooden barn moved from Břestek, two further farmsteads, and a house with a wine cellar standing above an old cellar. The site also includes a vineyard with original klátové hives, a wooden hayloft from Hradčovice dating from 1904, and two orchards with old local fruit varieties.
The reconstructed and relocated buildings show village architecture from the 18th to the mid-20th century. The exhibitions focus on the folk culture of Dolňácko: building and housing, livelihoods and crafts, clothing, folk art, customs and folklore, and also on land management in meadows, orchards and a demonstration vineyard. Folk traditions are celebrated throughout the year, for example fašank, Easter, the raising of the maypole, the harvest, the village feasts (hody) and Advent.
