About the museum
Modelové království is a large model railway layout themed on the Vysočina region, built and operated by the registered association Modelové království Žďár. The members decided to model real stations, buildings and landscape features, so that visitors can compare the model with the original. The central feature is the Žďár station, with extensive tracks and sidings to local businesses. Also on show are the stations Nové Město na Moravě and Nedvědice, the Hamry nad Sázavou stop, the Loučský viadukt, a complex with the Ski hotel, Pernštejn Castle and the Church of St John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora.
The layout covers an area of about 55 m² in a room measuring 14 × 9 meters and has the shape of an almost closed letter U, 28 meters long. About 600 meters of track and 168 switches are laid on it, arranged in eight stations; five of the stations are hidden. The association strives to come as close to reality as possible and to involve the visitor, for example in controlling trains or riding in a train fitted with a camera.
The construction of the layout, including the rent, is financed from member contributions, sponsors and donations. The exhibition is in the basement of the House of Culture in Žďár nad Sázavou.
