About the museum
The museum is housed in a Baroque listed house, no. 265, on the square in Lysá nad Labem, and is named after the native Bedřich Hrozný, who became famous for deciphering the Hittite language. It has borne this honorary name since 1951, and today it is one of the branches of the Polabské muzeum (Polabí Museum), based in Poděbrady.
The building has undergone complete reconstruction since 2015, financed from the Střední Čechy regional operational programme; the town of Lysá nad Labem owns the property. Part of the renovation was a new permanent exhibition, which uses many collection objects, presentation panels and multimedia technology.
The first part of the exhibition takes visitors through the history of the town from the earliest times, via archaeological finds and the Baroque period linked with the Šporek family, to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and introduces significant natives. The following section is devoted to Bedřich Hrozný, his scholarly work and the ancient Near East, including Hrozný’s personal belongings and documents. The last part presents the natural features of Lysá and its surroundings. Short-term exhibitions change during the year in the exhibition space, and lectures are sometimes held there.
