About the museum
The museum is housed in the protected burgher house no. 127 on Bezručova Street. The brick ground floor has vaulted ceilings, the half-timbered upper floor dates from the mid-18th century, and inside, stucco decoration and a coffered ceiling above the staircase have survived. A municipal museum existed in Horní Blatná before 1938 and ceased to exist in the early 1950s. A new exhibition on tin mining in the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) was prepared in 1977 by the Karlovy Vary Museum.
The current exhibition tells the story of the town and of the mining and processing of tin ore in Horní Blatná and the surrounding area, including Boží Dar. On display are tin tableware, local minerals, mining tools, models of a reversing water wheel and a mine pump, Ore Mountains bobbin lace, and a large model of the town, which visitors particularly enjoy. A separate section honours Hans Sophe, a native of the town.
The management of the museum passed to the town of Horní Blatná on 1 June 2014. In 2018 the house was renovated, and in October of that year a new exhibition opened. The museum is part of the Horní Blatná – Vlčí jámy educational trail.
