About the museum
The museum first opened to visitors in autumn 1996. It was founded by retired teachers Ján Jurák and Adam Rýdzi, who, with the help of donations from residents of the Bošáca Valley (Bošácka dolina), preserved a cultural and historical picture of life in the valley. It is housed in an original peasant house next to the Bošáca distillery (Bošácka pálenica) and consists of the podúkolie, a furnished living area, an agricultural section, a barn, a cellar and a summer kitchen.
The living room contains original furniture, the kitchen has a traditional brick oven, and the storeroom holds looms. The agricultural section has stalls for cattle and goats, a pigsty and a henhouse, as well as a workshop of a home craftsman. The shelter in the yard was built from the last standing barn in Bošáca and houses carts, a chaff cutter, a threshing machine and other farm tools. The summer kitchen has a built-in boiler for cooking plum jam, and the cellar once served to store fruit and vegetables. The exhibition also includes rare Bošáca folk costumes.
