Museum for Papirkunst
Northern Europe's only specialist museum for art, crafts and design made of paper, near Blokhus – with works by the paper-cutting artist Bit Vejle.
About the museum
The Museum for Papirkunst was founded by the internationally known psaligrapher (paper-cutting artist) Bit Vejle and opened on March 23, 2018 in Hune near Blokhus. It sees itself as the only specialist museum in the Nordic region devoted exclusively to art, crafts and design made of paper – from paper cutting to origami and découpage to paper sculpture.
The foundation-run museum comprises six galleries with a total of about 830 square meters. At its center is a core exhibition of works by Bit Vejle, which she has created over decades with embroidery scissors. It is complemented by changing exhibitions of international paper artists, a gallery with an original paper cut by H. C. Andersen, which changes every six months in cooperation with Museum Odense, and paper architecture by the Japanese artist Hiroko Momoi, who donated her works to the museum in 2025.
The museum sees itself as a place of calm and slow looking ("Slow Art"). The museum also has an open paper workshop where children and adults can cut and fold themselves, a café and a museum shop. Together with the firm BIG, the museum is planning a comprehensive renovation and expansion; models and sketches for it can be seen in Gallery 4.
