Skagen Bunkermuseum

Private museum in a German medical bunker of the Atlantic Wall at Grenen near Skagen with an operating room, uniforms and weapons.

Opening hoursAdmission from DKK 60

About the museum

During the German occupation in World War II, all three branches of the Wehrmacht were present in Skagen. The navy maintained a blocking battery as the northernmost link in a chain of coastal batteries meant to repel landings and secure the supply route to Norway. The Luftwaffe operated a radar station here, and the army built an infantry stronghold at the very tip of Grenen. Many of these installations have since been swallowed by sand or worn away by the sea; in a survey in 1990 only about half of the expected bunkers were found.

The museum is housed in a preserved bunker of the Regelbau 638 type, part of the Atlantic Wall, which was set up as a medical bunker for wounded German soldiers. In 2008 private individuals opened the bunker as a small war museum; today it is operated by Skagen Bunker Museum ApS.

Inside you can discover an operating room and a crew room, figures in uniforms, weapons and other items from the war years. A film room complements the exhibition and conveys the role of Skagen and Grenen during the occupation.
