About the museum
Angla Windmill Hill is the only place on Saaremaa where five windmills have survived in their original appearance. One of them is in working order, and rye bread for the Angla bakery is baked from flour ground on site. On the windmill hill stands the heritage culture centre, built of the magnificent dolomite of Saaremaa, which opened in 2011.
The centre houses a heritage culture and antiques museum, which presents the life of the local peasants, and historical agricultural machinery and tools. Workshops take place in the craft studios by advance order (felting, carding and spinning, dolomite, wood), and throughout the year folk culture events take place, for example Heritage Day and Bread Month.
