About the museum
The MTÜ Saaremaa Sõjavara Selts was founded in 2007 by combining several private collections. The society’s core collection consists of the private collections of its founding members, comprising about 12,000 items, of which about 7,000 are on display. The museum collects, researches, preserves and exhibits the heritage of military history, and it aims to become a visitor centre presenting the 20th-century wars fought in Estonia.
The museum is located in a Soviet-era farm building, and the visitor facilities are simple. The society also organises themed hikes and field camps, and it belongs to the Estonian and Latvian military heritage tourism route.
