About the museum
The Kodavere Pärimuskeskus operates in the former municipal office building in Pala, which was left empty after the 2017 administrative reform. The building is the only municipal office building in Estonia with a tower, and the local government operated from it as early as 1874.
The centre presents the peasant culture of the Kodavere parish. The exhibitions cover the history of the parish’s rural municipalities and municipal offices, the Kodavere dialect, Kodavere handicrafts and the Pala song festivals from a century ago. The parish people captured on glass negatives by Oskar Tõrv give an overview of rural life around a century ago. A separate room is dedicated to the poet Anna Haav.
The centre organises heritage events and offers workshops on the Kodavere language and traditions for pupils and adults. Excursions and workshops must be booked in advance.
