About the museum
The Peipsimaa Pärimuskeskus (heritage centre) is located in the heart of Peipsimaa, in the historic one-street village of Kolkja, an Old Believer village in Tartu County. The centre operates in an Old Believers’ house built in 1896. Its aim is to keep traditional local craft skills alive and to develop the unique Peipsimaa as a tourist destination.
Visitors can take part in craft workshops at the Sinilnik indigo-printing workshop, buy Peipsimaa handicrafts and souvenirs made in the centre, and view exhibitions in the art gallery, the Sigurimuuseum and the Lubokiõu. At the Tädi Šura café you can taste onion pies, sigur cake, fish soup and samovar tea with boiled sugar. The centre rents bicycles, scooters and sleds; for children there is a play house and a sandpit.
