About the museum
The Saare family lived at Hüpassaare farm in Karjasoo village from the beginning of the 19th century. The composer Mart Saar (1882–1963) studied in St Petersburg, lived in Tartu and in 1943 moved to Tallinn, but spent the summers at Hüpassaare. The museum was founded in 1964, shortly after the composer’s death. The farm’s main house was built in 1911; later rebuilding changed its original appearance.
The museum is a composer’s house in a quiet natural setting, known for its birdsong and misty sunrises. Visitors can get to know Mart Saar’s life and work independently or with a guide, and walk the 4.4 km bog trail.
