About the museum
The Mihkli farm is one of the oldest households in the village of Viki; the first written references to people living here date from the first quarter of the 18th century. The last owner of the farm, Jakob Reht (1886–1969), gave the historic building complex, together with most of the surviving ethnographic household items, free of charge to the Saaremaa Koduloomuuseum (Saaremaa Local History Museum) on 5 February 1959, and he himself became the first employee of the newly established farm museum.
No collecting work was needed to set up the museum, because in addition to the complete building complex a rich collection of household items had survived on site. The living house and the outbuildings are arranged in a circle around the central yard. The farmstead includes the living house (built, according to tradition, in 1834), the wheel house, the barn house completed in 1843, a sauna and an old barn.
