About the museum
In the Põltsamaa castle courtyard visitors find museums and exhibitions, craft and art shops, a wine-cellar restaurant and a church with a beautifully decorated interior. On 2 June 2023 a new visitor centre opened, and at the same time the castle tower and new museum buildings became open to visitors. To visit the museums and the tower, a ticket is bought at the information point in the gatehouse; visiting the castle courtyard itself is free.
The permanent exhibition in the gatehouse presents the history of Põltsamaa castle and the region over three floors. The museum building houses the permanent exhibition “Põltsamaalt Eestimaale” (“From Põltsamaa to Estonia”) on the history of the Põltsamaa parish, and the free permanent exhibition “Moodne vein ja toit Põltsamaalt” (“Modern Wine and Food from Põltsamaa”), which gives an overview of more than 100 years of wine and food production in Põltsamaa.
The castle tower and the convent building also present the history of the castle and the region across three buildings; there is a view from the castle tower. The Meistrite maja (Masters’ House) has a free exhibition “Rõivad räägivad. Kangad kõnelevad.” (“Clothes Speak. Fabrics Talk.”) and a gallery.
