About the museum
The Merchant's Museum shows how trade was conducted in the past. Its fittings were collected from several old country general stores, including the archipelago shop Rautas at Lumparsund, where the shipowner and merchant Nikolai Sittkoff took his first steps as a businessman in the 19th century.
The museum also holds parts of the workshop and shop of the shoemaker J G Eriksson, one of the first commercial craft shops in Mariehamn.
The museum is housed in the Köpmannagården next to Övernässtugan, Mariehamn's oldest surviving building. The farmstead was donated in 2013 to Commercial Counsellor Anders Wiklöf, who had it renovated, and it was awarded the K-märkt label in 2014.
