About the museum
The Alikartano estate was established in 1608 and has been restored to show visitors manor life in the 19th century. The manor is known as the childhood home of the explorer and the first sailor of the Northeast Passage, Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld. The estate was owned by the Nordenskiöld family from 1709 to 1912.
The main building, Ylipytinki, dating from 1805, represents a very rare type of manor in Finland. In the museum courtyard is the summer café Hedda, and the museum has a small museum shop. The manor is looked after by the municipality of Mäntsälä.
An exhibition called Noora and the Maids of Frugård is on display in the manor, and during the summer season guided tours leave on the hour.
