About the museum
The first opening day of the Pornaisten kotiseutumuseo (Pornainen Local Heritage Museum) was on 11 October 1936, and the museum was founded by the Pornaisten museoyhdistys (Pornainen Museum Association). The objects were arranged in an old bell tower that had become empty; it had been completed in 1834. The bell tower was destroyed in a fire on 10 January 1993, and most of the museum's objects were lost at the same time.
Archive material and some objects had been moved in time to an exhibition space on the upper floor of the parish service building, where the museum still operates. The museum is looked after by Pornainen-seura (Pornainen Society).
The collection includes, among other things, a collection of brass instruments that tells of the parish's associational activities, as well as cultural-historical and agrarian-period objects. There is also a significant amount of church objects from the Pornainen parish. Framed photographs of the lives and everyday life of Pornainen residents hang on the walls, some of them almost a hundred years old.
