About the museum
Kellokoski Hospital began operating in 1915 on the former lands of Kellokoski Manor. The museum was founded in 1973 by the hospital’s craft instructor to collect discarded objects. From 1973 to 2000 the museum was housed in Toimela, the manor’s former dairy, and later in a hospital ward; in 2000 it moved to the Sininen talo (Blue House), built in the 1930s as the chief physician’s residence.
Hospital staff maintained the museum until 2004, and in 2006 a Kellokoski Hospital Museum working group was founded. The permanent exhibition was renewed in spring 2019 in cooperation between the HUS (Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa) museum committee and the Tuusula Museum.
Today the museum is owned by HUS, and the Tuusula Museum keeps it open as a partner. The exhibition presents objects, photographs and documents on the history of the hospital and psychiatric treatment, the hospital’s work during the war years, and the lives of patients and staff. Handicrafts made by patients are also on display.
